Golden by a Second, Then Vogel

Lancaster’s 60+ came down to one second on both days, Falkorburg’s Cat 3/4/5 40+ drew forty-two, and Bradford Smith doubled up in Portland. October 10 and 11.

A full weekend of masters racing from Portland to Vermont. One race didn’t happen: Bubblecross in West Milford, New Jersey was cancelled for rain and concern over damage to the park.

Golden by a second, then Vogel by a second. John Golden (FinKraft Cycling Team) won Saturday’s 60+ at Lancaster from thirty-two finishers, one second ahead of Paul Vogel (Riverside Racing). On Sunday Vogel won it, a second clear of Michael Parent (Competitive Edge Racing). Miles Billings (Texas Roadhouse Cycling) won the 50+ both days. Adam Myerson (Cycle-Smart/ShiftGear) was third in Saturday’s open Cat 1/2/3 and second in Sunday’s, three seconds off the win. Dana Prey (Pedal Power Training Solutions) won Saturday’s Women Open.

Forty-two in Falkorburg’s 40+. That many finished the Cat 3/4/5 40+ in Maryland, and Josue Marroquin (Baltimore Bicycle Works Racing) won it. Irina Sarkisov (Crosshairs Cycling) beat Ruth Machamer by ten seconds in the women’s 50+, and Libbey Sheldon (CXD TREK BIKES) won the women’s 60+.

Feldhausen doubled at Englewood. Erin Feldhausen (Trek Midwest Team) won the open Women Cat 1/2 Elite and the Women Masters 35+. Peter Cherchian (Cleveland Cycling Academy) won the Cat 1/2/3 Masters 50+ ahead of Mark Harms.

Bradford Smith doubled in Portland. At Coyote Run he won the Category 1/2 Masters 35+ and the Singlespeed Open, which had twenty-seven finishers. Carolyn Daubeny (Deschutes Brewery Cycling Team) beat Leslie Carlson by nine seconds in the women’s 60+. Sue Hanna won the women’s 70+ and Tom Heywood the 80+.

New York had two doubles. At Uncle Sam in Troy, Brad Young (No.22 CX Team) won the singlespeed on both days. Kevan Edwards (Mello Velo Racing) won Sunday’s Cat 3/4 and masters race and was second in the Cat 1/2/3. At Knox CX in East Aurora, Matt Smitley won the singlespeed and was second in the open race, and Doug Rusho won the 50+.

Around the rest. In Ohio, Rudy Sroka won the 65+ at Down by the River ahead of his Team Lake Effect team-mate Ron Kubala, and Gunnar Shogren won the 55+. Joey Machado (Trek Store Lamar) won the 60+ on both days of Best Cross in San Antonio. Dunbar Oehmig (Bicycle Express Racing) won the 55+ at Green Mountain in Vermont.

Every race here is in the masters rankings.
